Soteriology

Soteriology is the study of salvation.

In systematic theology, it is fitting to have soteriology follow a study of the nature of humanity and the nature of sin because salvation is God’s answer to humanity’s problems. People need saving.

From what do people need to be saved? This is the question we will answer in Section A. Then, in the rest of this volume, we will investigate what salvation entails and how it is accomplished.

We will discover that our concept of God determines what we understand about His activity in salvation. CT/RT emphasizes God’s role as a Judge who must punish sin, while FST emphasizes God’s role as a loving Father who forgives sin.
